Week 29: From Earth to Heaven

As the prayer resumes, a significant change takes place from the words offered before the consecration. Whereas we had pleaded our God to accept the offering of bread and wine, we now ask Him to accept the pure, holy, and spotless victim. The offering has changed from our earthly things, to the sacrifice of the Lamb.
The priest recalls the sacrifices of Abraham and Melchizedek, highlighting the change that has taken place and prays that this sacrifice now be taken up “by the hands of your (God’s) holy Angel to your altar on high. In this way, the sacrifice of Abraham is finally fulfilled.
