Before entering into the Eucharist, we profess our Faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Not only do we confess that we believe in Him and He is the Son of God, but we profess who He is.
He was born before all ages; being consubstantial with the Father means that He and the Father are one such that whoever receives Him, is receiving the Father; And He descended from Heaven for our salvation.
We also profess and recall the historical truth. That our beliefs are not merely spiritualized ideals, but that we recall the work of salvation in His death and resurrection.
